Working Cat Program
The working cat program is a way to save the lives of cats who wouldn’t be comfortable living in traditional homes. Typically, these cats are not socialized to people. Some learn to trust and become loving companions, but most will continue to keep their distance. However, they make GREAT mousers and thrive with outdoor access. At Humane Society of West Michigan, we believe these cats deserve a second chance at life and forever homes of their own.
What we provide
Working cats are spayed or neutered, up-to-date on vaccinations, tested for Felv, microchipped, and ear-tipped. Your first 2 working cats are fee-waived.
What you provide
A safe, permanent structure such as a barn, shed, or greenhouse
Daily food and water
An acclimation period of 3-4 weeks: This is critical for cats to feel at home in their new environment and to keep them from running away. During this period, they’ll need to be confined in a crate with their food, water, litter, and a box to hide in.
