The human compassion we have for our animal friends is almost immeasurable. A perfect example is shown in the hundreds of volunteers who give their time and energy to Humane Society of West Michigan every single year.
If you too are interested in volunteering with us, thank you. Your efforts will be greatly rewarded. No matter how you volunteer, you will play an important role in helping shelter animals find their forever homes.
In order to become a volunteer at HSWM, we ask that you make a commitment of at least two (2) hours a week and are at least 16 years of age or older.
Viewing our orientation and training videos are required before you can begin volunteering. These can be done at your convivence.
Dog Volunteer:Come in and socialize, walk, and enrich the lives of shelter dogs - All of our dog volunteer spots are currently full please reach back out to us later in the summer. In the meantime you check out our Dog Day Out Program found HERE.
Cat Volunteer: Socialize and pet shelter cats. Help cats de-stress
Small Animal Volunteer: Socialize rabbits, guinea pigs, and other small animals
Adoption Counselor: Work with all animals and become a matchmaker between pets and humans. Must be 18 years of older for this position
Other: Administration help, data entry, help with laundry, greeting, vaccine clinics and so much more!
Onsite volunteer shadowing with current volunteers and staff will be done prior to volunteering on own.
