Dog's Day Out

The human compassion we have for our animal friends is almost immeasurable. A perfect example is shown in the hundreds of volunteers who give their time and energy to Humane Society of West Michigan every single year.

If you too are interested in volunteering with us, thank you. Your efforts will be greatly rewarded. No matter how you volunteer, you will play an important role in helping shelter animals find their forever homes.

Dog's Day Out

Not able to commit to a regular volunteering schedule but still want to help? Consider taking a dog for a Dog Day Out! You and a friend can take a dog out of the shelter for a 1-2 hour field trip and capture tons of pictures and videos to share! Must have two participants to be eligible, or a way to confine the animal (i.e., crate, dog seat belt, pet barrier)

Common outings include hikes, picnics, a trip to the lake or a trip through the drive-thru!

This program gives shelter dogs a chance for new experiences and gives insight as to how they will behave outside the shelter setting.

Another goal of this program is for shelter dogs to gain exposure to potential adopters, so please be sure to share pictures and videos to your social media, and chat with passersby!

Available times are as follows:

Tuesday-Friday: 11am-1pm or 2pm-4pm

Saturday: 11am-1pm or 1pm-3pm

Please Note:
There is a suggested donation of $20 to take a dog on a field trip.

This program is ideal for adults only. At least one member of the group must be 18 or older, and only adults may handle the dog. We also require that everyone in the group is at least 12 years old.

We do ask that you bring a friend as we do not know how the dogs will ride in the car. A friend is not required if you have a way to confine the dog in your vehicle (i.e., crate, dog seat belt, pet barrier)
Please keep windows closed in the vehicle while driving for the dog’s safety.
Please make sure the dogs are riding in the back seat of the car.
Shelter dogs must not meet other dogs. Please avoid dog parks and dog beaches.
Dogs must be kept on leash at all times.
