December Events
December 4th- December 24th: Stocking Sponsors
Sponsor a Shelter Animal for the Holidays!
As a sponsor for our Stocking Sponsors campaign, you'll bring joy to our animals for Christmas while they wait for their forever homes! With your donation, a shelter animal of your choice will receive a stocking for Christmas filled with treats, toys, and goodies! If they are fortunate enough to find a forever home before Christmas, they will get to take their gifts with them when they get adopted!
Along with giving an animal the second-best Christmas gift (the best being a loving home!), you will receive a photo of them and their story about their life in the shelter!
Sponsorship is $50 for a dog, $35 for a cat, and $25 for a rabbit, mouse, guinea pig, or other small animals, or for $100 have the opportunity to sponsor one of each type of animal!

Saturday, December 7th 5pm-7pm: Grand Rapid’s Santa Parade
Humane Society of West Michigan has been invited to walk in the Grand Rapid’s Santa Parade as we are a 2025 charity partner of the Amyway Riverbank Run! Grab the family and bundle up to head downtown to watch the parade, catch some candy and goodies, and finish the night off with the annual tree lighting at Rosa Parks Circle.
Thursday, December 12th 5:30pm-8:30pm: Santa’s Paws & Claws- Shelter/Reactive Dogs
Humane Society of West Michigan is hosting our very own holiday light show right at our shelter! Because of your donations, we are able to bring some Christmas cheer to our shelter dogs while they await their own Christmas miracle in their life. We will be walking all of our shelter dogs through our lit snowy grounds to see the magic in their eyes as they see the twinkle of the colorful lights. If they would like, they can also meet with Santa for some pets and an adorable photo. Once our shelter dogs are all done, we will be open for public owned reactive dogs under their own time slots to walk with their owners. We will have warm, delicious hot chocolate for sale as well as the opportunity for photos with our very own Santa to help raise donations for HSWM!

Saturday, December 14th 5:30pm-8:30pm: Santa’s Paws & Claws- Public Night
Humane Society of West Michigan has turned their grounds into a winter wonderland! Bring the family and the dogs and bundle up to see our shelter landscape covered in magical lights! We will have photographers on hand snapping pictures of the dogs enjoying the Christmas spirit, but feel free to snap your own. We will also have some warm, delicious hot chocolate for sale as well as the opportunity for photos with our very own Santa to help raise donations for HSWM!
Saturday, December 21st 10am-12pm Adoption Event at Fowling Warehouse GR
Humane Society of West Michigan is partnering with the Fowling Warehouse of Grand Rapids for an adoption event! Prior to the warehouse opening, we will be set up inside with adoptable animals for you to visit with. There will also be a photographer to snap the most adorable photos of our shelter animals finding love. Come on out to meet the babies and see if you find your new best friend- just in time for the holidays!
