P.E.T.S. Network

(Emergency Foster Program)

What does P.E.T.S. stand for?
Providing Emergency Temporary Shelter.

What is the P.E.T.S. Network?
This innovative program will provide emergency housing for pets affected by a natural disaster, eviction, domestic violence, owner homelessness, and other temporary care situations.

Humane Society of West Michigan (HSWM) takes pride in the ability to assist our community in keeping families together through times of hardship. At HSWM, we recognize that individuals of all walks of life may find themselves making life changing decisions on their pet’s behalf while seeking a stable home environment. We strive to be a network of resources for our pet community in providing emergency temporary shelter (P.E.T.S. Network).

HSWM is dedicated to keeping beloved pets with their families .

How can you join the P.E.T.S. Network?
If you are in need of emergency temporary shelter for your pets, please first look over our P.E.T.S. Network Information sheet found HERE, and our P.E.T.S. Network Guidelines found HERE.

To apply for P.E.T.S. Network please fill out the form found HERE and allow up to 72 hours for response with Temporary Care being available as resources allow.
For those experiencing homelessness in order to utilize our program you must have a lease/document showing you have a place to move to within 30-45 days.

Please Note: We are unable to provide Temporary Care for reasons relating to personal choice such as relocating for work, travel, pet restrictions in current rental, awaiting closing on a house, pregnancy of pet-parent, etc.

Those seeking Temporary Care may also opt to post their pet to the rehoming networks listed on our Private Adoption page found HERE, stipulating the desire to reunite with their pet in the pet’s bio.

How can you help with the P.E.T.S. Network?
If you are interested in giving a P.E.T.S. Network pet a safe place to be housed temporarily by becoming a P.E.T.S. Network Foster, please fill out our foster form HERE.
