Internship Opportunities
Humane Society of West Michigan is excited to announce our newest Summer Internship opportunities for 2023! We are now accepting applicants for our Foster Program and Education Program Internships which will run from June to August this coming year.
Foster Program Internship Done Accepting Applications for 2023
Our Foster Program Intern will assist with all day to day aspects of our successful animal foster program. Each year, over 1,000 animals go through the foster program where they can spend their time in a home instead of staying at the shelter. During the summer, there is a higher need for fosters due to "kitten season" and we often see more than 500 animals come in and out of foster care during this time.
Our Foster Program Intern will provide critical support during this season when we are faced with an influx of animals. We are looking for someone who loves animals, is interested in learning more about animal shelters, and can work independently on projects. Daily responsibilities will include assembling foster kits, caring for shelter animals, light cleaning, socializing shy animals, writing animal biographies, and performing foster program research among other tasks. This is an unpaid position, 10 hours a week, with flexible daily hours.
Education Program Internship
Our Education Program Intern will assist our Programs Coordinator with many day to day tasks as well as engage in longer term projects and proposals. We are looking for someone interested in learning more about the shelter from an education/community engagement standpoint. Each summer, hundreds of kids attend our day camps where they learn about animal welfare and care, engage in fun activities, and all around have a great experience learning more about the shelter! Our Education Program Intern will create and send out communication materials, assist with animal handling for day camps, research new camp opportunities, create a proposal for a new camp program at HSWM, and more! This is an unpaid position, 10-15 hours per week, with flexible daily hours.
These positions are aimed at incoming college students or those seeking college or work share credits. If interested please email lumlor@hswestmi.org for more information.
