Internship Opportunities
Humane Society of West Michigan is excited to announce our fall semester Internship opportunities for 2024! We are now accepting applicants for all Internships for the fall semester.
Volunteer & Foster Program Internship
Our Volunteer & Foster Program Intern will assist the Volunteer & Foster Coordinator in all daily aspects of running a successful volunteer and animal foster program. At any given time HSWM has over 200 volunteers and fosters that the organization relies on to help enrich the lives of the animals in our care.
Our Volunteer & Foster Program Intern will provide critical support during the season when we are faced with an influx of animals and need stability in our Volunteer Program. We are looking for someone with loves animals and people, is interested in learning more about animal shelter operations, and can work independently on projects. Daily responsibilities will include assisting in the care of shelter animals, putting together foster kits and assisting with sending animals out to foster, cleaning, socializing animals, assisting with the training of new volunteers, inputting volunteer information in the tracking program, etc.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 8 - 20 hours of work per week.
Humane Education Program Internship
Our Humane Education Program Intern will assist our Humane Education Coordinator with many day-to-day tasks as well as engage in longer term projects and proposals. We are looking for someone interested in learning more about the shelter from an education/community engagement standpoint. Each summer, hundreds of kids attend our day camps where they learn about animal welfare and care, engage in fun activities, and all around have a great experience learning more about the shelter! Our Education Program Intern will create and send out communication materials, assist with animal handling for day camps, research new camp opportunities, create a proposal for a new camp program at HSWM, and more! This is an unpaid position, 10-15 hours per week, with flexible daily hours.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 8 - 20 hours of work per week.
Administrative & Nonprofit Operations Internship
Our Administrative & Nonprofit Operations Intern will assist the Senor Director of Operations in the daily aspects of running a successful shelter. The Administrative & Nonprofit Operations Intern will provide critical support to the financial, facilities and other administrative departments.
We are looking for someone that loves animals and people, is interested in learning more about animal shelter operations, and can work independently on projects. Daily responsibilities will include assisting in financial reporting, reconciling and recording data, assisting HSWM outreach programs, etc.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 8 - 20 hours of work per week.
Development & Communications Internship
Our Development & Communications Intern will work closely with our Development & Marketing team on day-to-day tasks as well as assisting in the planning efforts of upcoming community and external events. We are looking for someone that loves animals and people, is interested in learning more about shelter operations like fundraising and marketing.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 8 - 20 hours of work per week.
Events & Development Internship
Our Events & Development Intern will work closely with our Development & Marketing team and our Corporate Engagement Coordinator on day-to-day tasks as well as assisting in the planning efforts of upcoming HSWM events. We are looking for someone that loves animals and people, is interested in learning more about shelter operations like fundraising and event planning. The Events & Development Intern with provide critical support in the planning of the Humane Hustle event and will be expected to attend the event on November 9th, 2024, from 9:00am - 5:00pm.
All internships through HSWM are unpaid but provide a flexible schedule with the expectation of 8 - 20 hours of work per week.
