Tales to Tails

Tales to Tails is an interactive way for students to work on their reading skills while helping comfort and reduce anxiety felt by shelter pets. Participants are able to interact with their "reading friend" for a short time before they sit down for quiet reading time with either a cat or dog.

  • Email aheddy@hswestmi.org to register your animal loving reader!
  • The reading session is 30 minutes long.
  • A liability waiver must be filled out for all children and adults who participate. Only legal parent/guardian can sign for a child.
  • A minimum $5 donation per child (max is three children, one adult per session). We can add a tour of the facility for your whole group for an extra $5!!
  • A parent/guardian must stay with the child
  • You can choose to read to a cat or a dog
  • You can bring your own book or choose one from our library.
  • We welcome kids of all ages!!
  • We will offer this program M-F between 10-5pm with varied hours on the weekend. We will always try to make it work with your schedule
